An Unnecessary Weekend in Jail (Part 1)

A client of mine spent a weekend in jail recently. A weekend in jail that was absolutely unnecessary, caused by a series of bad decisions.

My client is a well-respected nurse with a successful career. She went through a nasty divorce.

BAD DECISION #1: My client passed by her ex- husband’s house one night and saw the girlfriend’s car parked there. The next morning, both the ex-husband’s car and the girlfriend’s car had been damaged.

Never allow your temper to get out of control to the point where you damage someone else’s property or assault someone.

BAD DECISION #2: My client received a telephone call from a police detective wanting to talk to her about the case. She thought she could talk to the police detective and take care of this matter on her own.

Never try to resolve a criminal matter without the assistance of an experienced criminal defense attorney.

BAD DECISION #3: My client admitted her guilt and signed a confession.

Never forget that you have the Right to Remain Silent! Anything you say can and WILL be used against you in Court.

NEVER speak with a police detective or investigator or provide written or oral statements without consulting with an experienced criminal defense attorney first.

A good attorney will NEVER allow you to provide incriminating statements to the police.

BAD DECISION #4: My client thought the matter was over after she confessed her guilt to the police detective.
